The Renaissance of Polyphony
The first four albums in a series of five dedicated the choirbooks of the Illustre Lieve Vrouwe Broederschap in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
The Illustre Lieve Vrouwe Broederschap in the Dutch town of 's Hertogenbosch houses an incredible treasure: a collection of pristine choirbooks from the period 1450-1600, nine of which contain polyphonic music by some of the greatest masters of the time. Together they embody the unprecedented cultural wealth of the Duchy of Brabant, also known as the "Brabantse Gouden Eeuw."
The books were commissioned by the Brotherhood and contain work by some of the most renowned composers of the time. They were used extensively by the brotherhood, but the music has now been silenced for centuries. This series sheds new light on these hidden treasures.
