Here are some links to the images of the sources that we sing from on the recordings Missa Maria zart and Apostola apostolorum. Almost all the sources are available online, so while enjoying the sheer beauty of the choirbooks, chant books and early prints you can check on our historical practice of singing directly from them. If you want, you can also listen to the recording while following on the images, and maybe — why not? — even sing along! A bit as in this video. For a basic mensural notation reference sheet click here. For a complete manual check Willi Apel’s classic book on polyphonic music notations. But the best way to learn how to sing from mensural notation is… by doing it! Check for upcoming workshops on our education page.

As you will see, each library has its own way of making the sources available, with different kinds of ‘image viewers’, different ways to numerate the images (per folio, per image etc.), sometimes but not always offering the possibility to view the two pages of one opening at a time, as if the choirbook were open in front of you (this is, for instance, possible on the IDEM database). Some of the following links will land you directly on the right image of the source, like the links to the Brabants Historisch Informatie Centrum (BHIC) where you will just have to click on the first thumbnail image you see to open the viewer and enjoy full-sized images. At other times you will have to scroll to a particular page (which we mention here).

If you notice any problems with the links, or have questions or suggestions, please feel free to let us know at <peter.de.laurentiis@cappellapratensis.nl> Thank you!
